The workers at Renault's engine department, which recently announced its closure, didn't have to be without work for long - Scuderia Ferrari has snapped up their best!
Although Apine did not want to lay off anyone, and promised to redeploy the unemployed specialists, there were understandably some who did not want to work on other fronts. This was seen very wisely at Scuderia Ferrari…:
"We gave a guarantee that none of their jobs would be lost, but if there are those who can only imagine themselves in F1 engine design, then we will not put any obstacles in their way. After this, Fred Vasseur contacted us, asking if he could take a few of our technical colleagues with him, without notice. We agreed to this, we will not close them down and make them impossible," said CEO Luca De Meo.
Vasseur held the position of team principal at the then Renault team in 2016, so he didn't just buy a new car, he expanded his team with familiar faces.
