Fernando Alonso has raised a problem that almost every hardcore F1 fan thinks about or has already mentioned. Namely, that the current F1 stars are – with respect to the exception – boring NPCs…
Where is Niki Lauda, who dared to speak out against Enzo Ferrari, or the Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost villains, who burned the world to bits. There is no trace of them now, everything is weighed on pharmacy scales, and the drivers can't even make a living outside of racing. This is exactly what the last of the Mohicans, Alonso, complained about:
There are huge differences between our generation and theirs. I think the previous generations of racers were much more original, more human. They had a different approach to life, a completely different approach to racing. They were very tough people, guys!

They learn faster than ever before, and their level of preparation is very high. At the same time, if the helmet is taken off, they lose their character, if they ever had one... They are uniform, shy, they have a separate person for everything, they speak for them, they manage them, they train them, they transport them, they do everything for them. And this is reflected in their character." - Alonso reflected.
And we can't argue with him...
