Hamilton: “I thought I was going to die…”

Hamilton: „Azt hittem, MOST FOGOK MEGHALNI…”

Krisztián Márk Tóth |

Lewis Hamilton was a guest on a TV show the other day, where he was asked, among other things, what was the scariest moment he had ever experienced in sports.

Interestingly, this didn't happen on the racetrack, but while surfing. The seven-time world champion surfs frequently, having previously taken lessons from the legendary Kelly Slater, and in a conversation on the show, he revealed that his roughest and scariest experience wasn't on a racetrack, but at sea:

"Twenty-meter waves were coming up when Kelly warned me that this would be a dangerous ride. He said that if I ventured in now, I wouldn't be sure I would come out. I went in anyway... As soon as I started paddling, the next moment I was in the middle of the death zone. I almost didn't realize what was happening to me, I saw huge waves approaching me, and I felt: done, this is the end... I threw my board out of reflex, tried to hold on to a reef, while my surfboard broke in two, I swallowed water, I could barely breathe. I thought I was going to drown, I've never experienced anything scarier in my life," said Lewis Hamilton, who has been practicing one of the most dangerous sports in the world, motorsport, for decades.
