The bottom line and most importantly, if Max Verstappen wins his next race, there is no question that he is the world champion. If that doesn't happen, the championship fight could still happen in Las Vegas, or Lando Norris could avoid it...
We show you how:
If Verstappen finishes second, Norris will definitely have to win to maintain his mathematical chance.
If Verstappen finishes third, Norris will have to finish at least second. However, if the Red Bull driver also sets the fastest lap, he will still be crowned champion.
If Verstappen finishes fourth, Norris needs at least third place to keep his hopes alive. If the Dutchman finishes fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth or ninth, Norris needs to be at least two places ahead of him. If Norris sets the fastest lap of the race, he only needs to finish one place ahead of him to (theoretically) stay in the race. If Verstappen finishes tenth, Norris needs to be in the top eight. Finally, if Verstappen doesn't score points, Norris needs to finish at least ninth, capped off by the fastest lap, of course.
Did we mention we hate math?
