After a long debate, Andrea Stella agreed to what was expected and appointed Lando Norris as the team's number one driver:
"Our basic concept would be that we are terribly determined and we want to win at all costs, but we want to do it the right way. We decided to shift our support towards Lando, but we want to do it in a way that does not violate our basic principles. Which is that the interests of our team always come first. Sportsmanship is the most important thing for us in racing, and we want to be fair to both of our drivers. When we laid all this out, both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri approached the issue in a cooperative way.
When I asked Oscar if he was ready to hand over a win to Lando if necessary, he said that although it would hurt him a lot, if it was the right thing to do, he would do it. It’s impressive because every driver is driven to win and they all have a killer instinct, and when team spirit, maturity and cooperation can override that, that’s a real win!” said Stella.
