In recent months, and almost continuously during recent races, it has been expressed and hinted at by fans and the industry alike that Red Bull Racing is no longer the strongest team in the field.
Now we can see and hear something that is very rare at this level of the sport. McLaren has bravely stated what everyone suspected. They now have the best car and team in the F1 field! But they did it all with a self-criticism that embarrassed even their biggest critics…
I can say with one hundred percent certainty that we already have the best technique in the field. It was the same in the Netherlands, and it is now the same on average! These are facts, not just empty words, we can back this up with numbers and statistics. All of this would be much more visible and more prominent if we had managed to win two or three more races as a team. We didn't do a good enough job then, I didn't do a good enough job.
"But we worked really hard during the summer break, stepped back a bit, rethought things, gathered our thoughts. And now we can see the result of everything, the turnaround that didn't start now, but is now coming to fruition. It's incredible to think about where we started and where we are now," said Lando Norris, who recently beat Max Verstappen by a brutal 20 seconds.
