Kyle Larson, the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion, made this unusual statement, and before anyone thought he was just joking, he backed up his argument professionally.
The three-time Knoxville Nationals champion, who also drives for Hendrick Motorsports, believes he could adapt to the challenges of F1 much more quickly and effectively than his world-class teammate in the US racing series:
"I consider myself more versatile and I am the better driver. I think it is completely out of the question that if Verstappen got into a car here, he would win, say, the Knoxville Nationals. It is completely out of the question that he could win the Chili Bowl, or even just one race in Bristol. I probably wouldn't be able to be successful and win a Formula 1 race in, say, Monaco, but because of the technology, I would have a better chance on his field than he does here. And that is why I dare to say that I am better than him. It could be an IndyCar or an F1 car, I would be faster than him in everything. You can write that off!" - the press quoted the very confident Kyle Larson.
