Disgusting policy: Schumacher should not be an honorary citizen

Undorító politika: Schumacher nem lehet díszpolgár

Tóth Krisztián Márk |

Without Michael Schumacher, probably no one in the world would be able to put Kerpen on the map. But Schumacher is, was, and hopefully will be - only the city government that refuses to grant him an honorary citizen title should understand this.

The matter is not new, both the profession and the fans have been trying to wrest this recognition from the seven-time world champion for a long time using various means of pressure. To no avail… Local politics took a stand again as a kind of Christmas surprise, and it couldn't have done it in a more disgusting way:

"There is no order of honor in Kerpen. The introduction of the order of honor and the associated honorary citizen title, and its awarding, are entirely the responsibility of the city council," said the mayor, Dieter Spürck.

"On March 19, 2024, the city unanimously decided to postpone the topic of Michael Schumacher's honorary citizenship. The factions and non-faction representatives must first vote between factions on whether to introduce such a title. Since then, no applications have been received on this topic," explained Kerpen's "first" man, whose colleagues concluded this with belches of "it makes no sense at the moment" and "where does honorary citizenship begin and end"...

Let's not have to comment on all this, you know our opinion anyway.
