Is it okay that a competitor who messes up the starting procedure is fined X amount, and another who swears is fined double that? The competitors' interest advocacy organization has had enough of this!
The international motor sport federation has taken things a bit too far these days, and it's not just the fans who are upset. The drivers' association, led by George Russell, has written an open letter to the FIA president:
"We are professional drivers who compete in Formula 1, the pinnacle of international motor racing. We are gladiators, we provide a special show for the fans every race weekend. When it comes to obscene speech, there is a huge difference between when we want to hurt someone and when, for example, we refer to the weather with unsolicited words, or when we make an unsolicited statement about our inanimate car or a racing situation.
"That is why we would like to ask the FIA President, Mohamed Ben Sulayem, to consider his own tone and language when speaking to us or about us, whether in private or in a public forum. We are adults who do not need to be instructed through the media, especially not about such mundane things as what to say or what to wear or not wear..." - the Russells said harshly.
