Verstappen wins CANADIAN MADNESS, Norris and Russell on the podium

Verstappen nyerte a KANADAI ŐRÜLETET, Norris és Russell dobogós

Krisztián Márk Tóth |

The Canadian Grand Prix started out crazy, and it can be said that it was the race of the season so far.

George Russell made a great start, and Max Verstappen didn't fall asleep behind him either, so the leaders came without changing places. Fernando Alonso improved his position further back, but in the meantime everyone was already paying attention to Kevin Magnussen: the Haas drivers started on full rain tires instead of intermediate tires, and since there was more and more water on the track, this compound worked really well. So much so that Magnussen essentially improved ten positions in just two laps and closed up to fourth position. All of this was incredible, but at the same time the promised rain didn't arrive, and water was constantly being squeezed out of the racetrack, so the Haas driver's miracle stalled. In fact, it quickly disappeared, as he arrived for a tire change without his team knowing about it...

A battle seemed to be brewing at the front, Verstappen started to close in on Russell, but in the meantime, we had to watch the sky to see if another heavenly blessing would come. The Dutchman, however, made a mistake, which caused him to fall behind Russell and also fall into the crosshairs of the chasing Lando Norris. By then, the curve had dried up seriously, the changeover point was approaching, so the use of DRS was also allowed. Norris didn't need to do anything more, he caught Verstappen at a tremendous pace and was already racing after the Mercedes. And by the time we had typed these letters, the change of places had already taken place, and it was a double one, because in addition to Norris taking the lead, Verstappen regained second place. The Briton from McLaren had built up such a lead in a short time that it would have been more than enough for the race win, but then Logan Sargeant came along...

The American spun, broke his rear wing, causing a safety car phase. Everyone came out to the pits to change wheels, but Norris lost it, and thus lost both the leading position and the advantage... The race restarted in the order of Verstappen, Russell, Norris, and the order did not change. Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc, who was having a very bad race, switched to slicks, and in the meantime the sky fell again. Crazy things happened, we witnessed enough events for three or four better races. One of them was that a few laps later Pierre Gasly asked for slicks so that he could try them... A little later Hamilton, Verstappen, everyone did the same - but Norris did not! Lando took the lead, but it was a very flexible strategy to see if he could drive enough time to win. It was impossible, Norris overpowered him, but Russell also made a mistake before that, so they gave each other positions back and forth.

Just when we thought there was nothing new under the sun, Alexander Albon was knocked out of the race by Carlos Sainz - safety car. More tire changes, madness, almost dry track, more rain clouds, Tsunoda accident, amazing Hülkenberg rescue, Russell - Hamilton battle for the podium... Finally, after a huge fight and tactics, Max Verstappen won the Canadian Grand Prix ahead of Lando Norris and George Russell. Never a worse race!
