The 1997 F1 world champion believes that, after seeing Carlos Sainz's performance this year, the Scuderia is already scratching their heads wondering if they made the right decision. Probably NOT...
We all know the story: Sainz was spectacularly kicked out of the team before the season to make way for Lewis Hamilton. The Spaniard then “swore revenge” and vowed to show the decision-makers that they had made a big mistake. Well, the fact is that based on the past races, we can safely say that he was right, as he is massively beating Charles Leclerc and competing at world championship level:
"Carlos Sainz reacted to being dropped from Scuderia Ferrari in a teacher-like manner. He's not a guy who can be pushed into the background, and he's proving that against Leclerc, whom he's now practically beating constantly. He vowed to show the world what he can do, and there he is... No one else has won races for Ferrari apart from him, and that's really boosted his value. He was treated as a risk factor by every team, and the Italians did the same. But now he's matured, he's consistently better than his teammate, he's dedicated, smart, and works hard. Talent alone isn't everything, you have to put everything behind you if you want to be successful, and he's giving it his all.
There are two camps within Ferrari who have now shot themselves in the foot. One camp wanted Hamilton at all costs, the other wanted to keep Leclerc.
