The eight-time constructors' world champion, one of, if not the most successful Formula 1 teams of all time, is going through dark days. And it doesn't look like that's going to change overnight...
Mercedes has been winless since 2022, and the situation is getting worse. So much so that team leader Toto Wolff has said that if someone can do their job better than him, he will gladly give up his place for the sake of the team. An unusual gesture, one thing is certain:
"We struggled with the same thing in the Australian Grand Prix that we have always struggled with in the past. There were moments when we were massively lacking in pace, then there were moments when things were okay, but we are still not where we want to be. No one, including me, sees where we are positively, but we have to focus on getting out of the pit. This is a very difficult situation, but we have to stay calm and balanced. I try to be optimistic about the situation, but I would be the first to give up my place if someone came and could overwrite all this... On the other hand, I would kick myself if that happened, because I feel that we are not far from the moment when things can come together and from there we can easily turn the situation around," said Toto Wolff, self-critically and somewhat exasperated.
