At 44, Alonso doesn't look like he's about to retire. Almost every weekend he's asked how long he'll be around. His answer is always the same: a long time, because he's committed.
Alonso could be on the track at the age of 50, which in itself would be a unique record in modern Formula 1:
“When I turn 50? I don’t know what and how it will be then, that’s why I’m leaving all doors open. I definitely wanted to race this year, I want to be on the grid next year because of the changing rules. I want to test myself in 2026, and I wanted to wait for Honda to arrive. Adrian Newey’s joining added a huge plus to this whole thing and made the contract extension very attractive.
I will always be ready to help my team, in whatever capacity they need me. If they want me behind the wheel, then there I am, no matter the age! If I feel motivated and fast enough, then nothing is a problem, otherwise I will be the first to put my hand up and say it's over!
It bothers me a little that the results on Sundays are not the same as before, but that does not diminish my motivation and hunger for success. In fact! I am calm and determined, because this is a transitional period from which we can learn a lot. We are now preparing to stand there in a dignified manner, when we have a championship-winning car. And that time will come, when the team is ready, then I will be here,” said Fernando Alonso calmly.
