With a precise and collected drive, Oscar Piastri fully deservedly won the Azerbaijani Grand Prix ahead of Charles Leclerc - who was unable to convert another pole position into success.
Charles Leclerc made a great start, followed by Oscar Piastri who did not lose any position. Sergio Perez, however, overtook Carlos Sainz, as his teammate immediately improved a position. Meanwhile, Lando Norris also tried to fight his way up, helped by Lance Stroll's puncture, who immediately got in front of him. It soon turned out that Stroll's puncture was due to the collision with Yuki Tsunoda. Leclerc seemed to slowly move away from the others, while Norris continued to improve his position and was already among the points scorers. The young Briton attracted attention with his excellent tire handling, while three-time world champion Max Verstappen suffered from a complete lack of grip. We slowly reached the pit stops, where not too many events that had an impact on the result occurred.
Although the Hungarian commentators described the race as “the best Baku race ever”, the reality was far from that. The race only started to pick up a bit when Piastri managed to take the lead using DRS. Leclerc kept the McLaren youngster under constant pressure, and it was worth keeping an eye on him from behind, as Perez was also driving within a visible distance behind them. By the last laps, it was clear that it was not Piastri’s victory that was in danger, but Lelcerc’s second place, which looked stable throughout. In the end, the fight ended from behind, as Carlos Sainz’s mistake caused both Perez, who was driving Leclerc, and himself to crash out of the race. This ended the Azerbaijani Grand Prix, which was won by Oscar Piastri, ahead of Charles Leclerc and the laughing “many” third George Russell. In the end, Lando Norris finished ahead of Max Verstappen, Franco Collapinto scored the first points of his career, and substitute Oliver Bearman also made it into the top 10.
