Behind the perhaps arrogant lead lies a very reasonable reasoning. McLaren boss Zak Brown spoke about how important the combination of car and driver is on the road to success.
Every serious Formula 1 fan knows that in technical sports, a driver has no business without competitive technology. That is, if he wants to win... This is exactly what Brown explained:
"As great a driver as Max Verstappen is - I think he's one of the best ever - I don't think he'd have a chance of winning a world championship behind the wheel of another car. In fact, if we turn the question around, I can name at least 6-7 drivers who would be world champions with the Red Bull Racing Team. But talent alone is not enough, you need the designer, the car, the driver. If a team wants to reach the top, they have to put a lot of emphasis on each of these areas. Obviously, you can't win without a very good driver, but it all starts with the car. I'm often asked what's more important, the car or the driver? I think I've answered that now," Brown mused.
