Lewis Hamilton is a great friend of young people. He behaves this way with the young, emerging generation because he remembers the atmosphere he was welcomed into when he entered the F1 circuit.
Bad memories change a person's mentality the most, and a living example of this is the seven-time world champion driver:
"I remember well the first time I went to a Formula 1 Grand Prix, I was eleven years old. It was in 1996, at the Belgian Grand Prix, where I met F1 drivers in person for the first time. Later, when I became a Formula 1 driver myself, I don't remember anyone welcoming me warmly. Quite the opposite... The only exception was Niki Lauda, but he was obviously not an active driver. I still have the feeling of how unpleasant it was for me to experience this welcome as a youngster, and now that I see these young guys, I don't want them to feel the same way. They are doing very well, in Singapore they were both (Oliver Bearman, Franco Colapinto) ahead of me, they drive well, they don't make mistakes, they have a great future ahead of them. So, they deserve to be appreciated!"
"I want to be different, positive towards them, I can't and don't want to say anything bad about them. Many people talk about these guys in a negative context for no reason, why?" - asked the poetic question of the extremely sporty Lewis Hamilton.
