From time to time, rumors are circulating that Max Verstappen could move to Mercedes. Red Bull Racing still has the best car, but there are things that could make the aforementioned hypothesis a reality.
That is, it could happen, because Christian Horner and the lobby behind him are determined to prevent this by all means available. And he believes that his driver knows very well that what was achieved in 2023 cannot be sustained:
"Despite all the rumors, I am aware of where Max will race next and beyond. Everyone knows that he has a place with us, I don't understand why Toto Wolff is still talking and dreaming about getting him...
He is a fantastic driver, but he is under a lot of pressure now. 2023 was a very special and unique season, this year is much more balanced. We have to fight very hard for every win. But there is nothing wrong with that, because he is hungry for success, he hates to lose, and that is good. He is driven by a crazy inner drive, he has a huge hunger for performance, and he demands the same from the team. He simply wants a fast car, that is all. He also knows that it was not normal that we were able to win almost every race in 2023. We have to fight very hard at the moment, and Max is the plus that makes the difference in our favor. We have to improve, but we are getting better and better, we understand where and in what,” said Christian Horner, confidently but at the same time self-critically.
