South Africa is campaigning hard to get back into Formula 1, and not just in the headlines. The country's sports minister has set up a committee to select a promoter the country can apply with in the next few months.
It is said that Kyalami, which is not an unknown venue in F1, could be the winner. Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie is already planning for 2027, and he believes that the conditions for hosting could realistically be met by that date:
"The newly established committee will determine the conditions for the application. By the end of February, they must submit to the government a proposal for a location that will certainly not bring shame to the country and will organize the best race possible. Which location it will be is not yet known, but I would like to add that Kyalami has the history and the infrastructure. Just look at the climate, look at the roads, the possibility of a street race easily emerges. There are investors who are willing to make a sacrifice for this, so I think everything is a given..." - stated the person most familiar with the matter.
