The Mexican Grand Prix continued with a special stage, in the second stage the field was able to try Pirelli's 2025 compounds. We didn't escape the red flag again, this time George Russell crashed the Mercedes.
Free practice had barely begun when Russell lost his car on a corner exit and had a nasty accident. We had no idea at that time that this would be the “most exciting” moment of the practice, nor that we would have to worry about Russell’s health, who was suffering from a rib injury for the rest of the time. This was exactly the case, and next to it the Pirelli tire test was going on in a monotonous, boring and silent manner, during which the drivers used unmarked tires. So we didn’t really know who was using which compound, the most we could infer from the time results. Only at the end of the practice did a few medium tires come on here and there, which was only allowed to those who didn’t take part in FP1, but that didn’t change the overall picture. FP2 was eventually won by Carlos Sainz ahead of Oscar Piastri and Yuki Tsunoda, but today we were no wiser about the balance of power.
