The world-famous Belgian racetrack has made the news with unusual news - thank goodness, this time in a positive context.
King Philippe of Belgium has announced that this year the Kingdom of Belgium will issue a coin that pays tribute to one of, if not the most famous trails in the world.
It is common practice for countries using the euro to issue two types of 2-euro coins with new designs every year. The obverse of each coin commemorates a significant or important issue for the issuing country or for Europe.
In his statement, King Philippe also describes that the back of the “Spa-Francorchamps Euro” will feature the track’s outline, with two numbers on the left: 7004 and 1921. The first obviously symbolizes the current section of the track, and the second the year of its opening, since that was the year the first races were held there. The (official) design for the coin has not yet been released, but it would be good to be on the lookout: you can get a beautiful Formula 1 souvenir, and it’s free!
