The funny thing is that the last time this happened was 800 Formula 1 races ago. All this happened with pole position and fastest lap!
In addition, Oscar Piastri has now emerged as a world championship contender, just three points behind teammate Lando Norris at the top of the standings. Piastri has won four races in his career, the last of which came at the Bahrain Grand Prix, setting an Australian national record.
Alan Jones achieved a similar feat for Williams in the 1980 season-opening Argentine Grand Prix, which was the 329th race in the series' history, while last weekend's Bahrain race was the 1,129th, meaning it took exactly 800 races for an Australian to repeat the feat. It bodes well for Piastri, as when Jones did it, he also won the world championship that year...
