George Russell always thought that on the other side of the Mercedes box was the best driver in the world, against whom, if he could prove himself, he could one day become world champion.
Now Russell is here, looking to make that promise his own. He has been consistently beating Lewis Hamilton within the team for two seasons, so in theory he only needs one competitive technique to complete his mission:
"I am fully aware of the role I am being given as the more experienced driver in the team. In 2025, there will be many, many great young drivers coming into Formula 1, and that is when you realise that – although you are not old – you are no longer young. My career has entered a new chapter, having completed the first stage, I am entering the next. When Lewis Hamilton started winning countless world championships, he was already older than me, and now he is waiting for me to follow his example. I feel that I am moving in the right direction, I am ready to fill the role that is intended for me. The main thing is to be as fast as possible, and I feel that I am." - George Russell spoke implicitly about his goals.
