The Japanese manufacturer is returning to Formula 1 with Haas, albeit in a slightly different way than we first thought. The Japanese company's logo will appear on the cars from the next race.
The agreement does not involve an “elementary” partnership, but rather the use of each other’s resources, and as such, it can be considered a new innovation:
"Under a new multi-year agreement, we will share our expertise and technical resources. Toyota Gazoo Racing will assist us in the design, technical and manufacturing processes, and we will offer our technical knowledge gained in Formula 1 and the commercial opportunities provided by our team," the announcement states.
Although Toyota has long since separated from the F1 circuit, its European motorsport center is specialized in the racing circuit and is still in operation. It has been rented out to F1 teams and was recently used by McLaren. All this gives Haas an advantage, human resources, and infrastructure that the Americans have not had before:
"I see it as a huge opportunity for the future to use Toyota Gazoo Racing's resources and knowledge, and to benefit from their technological and manufacturing processes, and I am sure that this will be a decisive milestone in our development. Our clear goal is to become more competitive in Formula 1, and we are therefore giving Toyota a platform that they can exploit both engineeringly and economically," said team principal Ayao Komatsu.
