The former Scuderia Ferrari team principal believes the Italian team made a mistake in signing Lewis Hamilton. However, he believes Hamilton made a great deal!
Binotto returned to Formula 1 this year as Audi's managing director, but he remains a Ferrari fan. He believes Fred Vasseur made a mistake by signing Hamilton, as the focus should be on Charles Leclerc's talent:
"Hamilton did very well to join Ferrari, I agree with his decision. If I had to decide on this issue, I would not have invited him to the team, because in my opinion, we should focus on younger drivers. There is the talented Leclerc, I think he should achieve big goals with him.
"I've been a Ferrari fan since I was a child and our shared past cannot be erased. I still have many photos and objects from that period in my apartment. But professional decisions are not always balanced with emotions, you have to be able to separate them. Regardless, I'm still happy when Ferrari wins, there are a lot of my dear friends there, and I feel like I've contributed a little to their success," said Binotto.
