Sebastian Vettel has backed his former rival, saying that if anyone can pull Ferrari out of its long-standing rut, it's Lewis Hamilton.
He is rooting for his teammate's success despite the fact that he was once unable to fulfill his potential at Scuderia Ferrari because of Hamilton. But Vettel is not bothered by this:
"It's true that I didn't succeed because Lewis had a better package with Mercedes at the time. We'll see how he managed to work with Ferrari, but in any case, I'm rooting for him with all my heart. We fought a lot against each other, we became good friends over time, and I don't have to prove his abilities or the work he's put in to anyone. He's the most honest driver in current Formula 1, his results and records speak for themselves, and he always uses his influence for positive purposes, which is why it's gratifying that he's still part of the field. I really want him to win the championship, but it won't be easy. There's Charles Leclerc, who's very talented, they're a very strong duo, but it's not just up to them to have a chance of winning the championship when they get to the last races. We hope it'll be close, then everyone would win." - Sebastian Vettel reflected.
