These days, many people and in many ways are “experts” on Liam Lawson’s poor season-opening performance. However, former team principal Giancarlo Minardi does not share the public opinion. He believes that Lawson is not to blame for his performance.
It's more about Max Verstappen, who, in addition to his undeniable successes, has made Red Bull Racing a mess. Verstappen is the center, everything is built on him, and therefore it's very difficult to keep up:
"At Red Bull, the problems that cause one of the drivers' ailments are not what most people think or suggest. As Verstappen's teammate, everyone starts with a huge handicap, and not because the Dutchman is so terribly good. It's more because everything, down to the last screw, is tailored to him, and it's been said that all his teammates have suffered from this. And Liam Lawson can't cope with this now either. This simply shouldn't be allowed in an optimal situation, but as a result of his successes, Max has such a say that he's easily lobbying for this for himself." - the Italian veteran specialist defended the young Lawson.
