Many people wave their hands in disdain when Fernando Alonso's name is mentioned. Not one of them is former F1 driver Karun Chandhok, who believes that with the arrival of Adrian Newey, Alonso could easily become world champion at the age of 45.
According to Chandhok, the situation is very similar to when Newey arrived at mid-table Red Bull Racing. Even then, Formula 1 was facing serious rule changes, and this is exactly the situation now, from which Chandhok concludes that, like RB, Aston Martin can be incredibly strong:
"In 2007 and 2008 they were mostly preparing for the structural overhaul and the big changes in 2009, and although Brawn surprised them with the double diffuser, by the second half of that season they were the best. We all know the rest: they swept every world championship title from 2010 to 2013, they dominated the racing circus for four years. I think something similar is happening at Aston Martin now, and if they can do a pretty good job in 2025, they could make explosive progress in 2026 under the new regulations."
"It would be an incredible story if Fernando won his third world title at the age of 44-45 in a car designed by Adrian Newey. He certainly believes in it, that's why he's still in the race!" - reflected the Indian expert.
