Lewis Hamilton has expressed concern that most entry-level categories in automotive/motorsports have become almost unaffordable these days.
The seven-time world champion is also bothered by the fact that children are missing school because of sports:
"It's become incredibly expensive, even karting. I don't know exactly how much a season costs in the lowest categories, but I've heard it's at least three times more than when I started racing. If I hadn't been sponsored by McLaren and signed with Mercedes, I would never have been able to have this career. It's very worrying how the costs are increasing.

And you also hear a lot about young go-kart drivers not going to school. Parents put everything on the same page with them, and the guys just train and compete all the time. Most of them will not make it to Formula 1, and they really need to have knowledge that they can use in civilian life. It would be necessary to regulate this, for example, the license should be tied to academic results. I think this would be the solution, because what we have now is not good,” Hamilton said.
